EU – The European Green Deal - Delivering the European Green Deal

The European Green Deal is a response to climate and environmental-related challenges. It is a new growth strategy that aims to transform the EU with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use It also aims to protect, conserve and enhance the EU's natural capital, and protect the health and wellbeing of citizens from environment-related risks and impacts.

The European Commission proposes more ambitious targets for reducing the CO2 emissions of new cars and vans:

  • 55% reduction of emissions from cars by 2030.
  • 50% reduction of emissions from vans by 2030.
  • 0 emissions from new cars by 2035.

The Commission also promotes the growth of the market for zero- and low- emissions vehicles. In particular, it seeks to ensure that citizens have the infrastructure they need to charge these vehicles, for short and

long journeys.
