Proposal for a new Regulation

The Working Group on Motor Vehicles (MVWG) has published during its 144thsession held on 16 December 2020 a new version (annexes) of the draft on Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) .../... of XXXX supplementing and amending Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 of the European Parliament and of the Council by laying down detailed rules concerning the specific test procedures and technical requirements for the type-approval of motor vehicles with regard to driver drowsiness and attention warning.

The driver drowsiness and attention warning (DDAW) is a system assessing the driver’s alertness through vehicle systems’ analysis and, where needed, providing warning to the driver. In particular, that system must detect or recognise the driving and/or steering pattern symptomatic of a driver exhibiting reduced alertness due to drowsiness, and interact with and alert the driver via the vehicle’s human-machine interface.

This new version of the draft adds new requirements and an amendment to the R(EU) 2019/2144. It also introduces an amendment to be defined to the R(EU) 2018/858.

This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
