JP – Partial amendments to the safety standards for road transport vehicles

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan has published a new press release on risk mitigation function. In order to introduce the UN regulation on risk reduction functions (driver error response systems) into the detailed provisions of the national safety standards, the necessary legal and regulatory changes will be made.

In light of the recent agreement at the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Standards (WP29) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe to amend the United Nations Regulations to add performance requirements for risk mitigation functions, Japan will also amend the detailed provisions of the safety standards to reflect the amended United Nations Regulations in the safety standards. In light of this, Japan will also amend the detailed provisions of the Safety Standards to reflect the revised UN Regulations in the Safety Standards. This UN regulation is based on the guideline which Japan made a requirement for such a function for the first time in the world in 2008.
