JP - Further harmonization of standards for exhaust gas performance of passenger cars, etc.

Japan has adopted UN R.154 on August 5th, 2021. Regarding the exhaust gas test method for passenger cars, etc., in October 2016, Japan introduced the "Worldwide Unified Emissions Measurement Method for Light and Medium Duty Vehicles" (WLTC mode).

The WLTC cycles are part of the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedures (WLTP), published as UNECE Global technical regulation No 15 (GTR 15).

As a further standard harmonization, the "Agreement Regulations on the Globally Unified Emissions Measurement Method for Light and Medium-duty Vehicles (No. 154)" has been established by the United Nations European Economic Commission Automobiles so that mutual approval is possible in the type approval of automobiles. It was newly adopted at the 181st meeting of the World Forum for Harmonization of Standards (WP29).
