EU – R(EU) 2022/670 - EU-wide real-time traffic information services - New Regulation
Has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union the new Commission Delegated Regulation supplementing Directive 2010/40/EU with regard to the provision of EU-wide real-time traffic information services.
The EU is promoting the use of digital technology (‘intelligent transport systems’) in road travel and transport. A key part of this is providing accurate, real-time road traffic information services.
This new Regulation will:
- expand the geographical coverage of such services to include local road networks;
- support the use of new data types, to provide (new) services such as (i) restricting vehicle access in urban areas and (ii) government use of data from business in e.g. traffic and road management.
This Regulation will entry into force on 15 May 2022, the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
It shall apply from 1 January 2025.
