Alcohol interlock installation facilitation in motor vehicles - New Regulation
Has been published the new Commission Delegated R(EU) 2021/1243 of supplementing R(EU) 2019/2144 of the European Parliament and of the Council by laying down detailed rules concerning the alcohol interlock installation facilitation in motor vehicles and amending Annex II to that Regulation.
The purpose of alcohol interlocks is to enhance traffic safety by preventing persons with alcohol concentrations exceeding a set limit value from driving a motor vehicle.The scope of this Regulation is limited to motor vehicles of categories M and N in line with Annex II to R(EU) 2019/2144.
Annex I of this Regulation establishes the requirements to the type-approval of motor vehicles with regard to Alcohol Interlock Installation Facilitation.
Annex II introduces an amendment to R(EU) 2019/2144.
It will entry into force on 19 August 2021, the twentieth day following that its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It shall apply from 6 July 2022.
