EU – Event Data Recorder

 

The European Commission has published the initiative supplementing and amending Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 by laying down detailed rules concerning the specific test procedures and technical requirements for the type-approval of motor vehicles with regard to their event data recorder and for the type-approval of those systems as separate technical units.

It aims to introduce information regarding general requirements, data security and the event data retrieval. It also introduces and amendment to the Annex II of the Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 (General Safety Regulation).

This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It shall apply as from 6 July 2022.

This initiative will be in feedback period until 9 November 2021.

This Regulation shall apply to vehicle categories M1 and N1, as defined in Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
