Council adopts CO2 emission performance standards for new trucks for the period post-2020

                 IRIS Regulatory News

European Union goes to a greener future through reduction of CO2 emissions. In April, a new Regulation setting CO2 emissions for cars and vans in the period post-2020 was published.

Now it is the turn of trucks, but the main difference is that this is the first ever CO2 emission standard for heavy-duty vehicles.

The Council adopted on 13 June the proposal for a new Regulation and it will be published in a few days.

New trucks must emit on average 15% less from 2025 and 30% less from 2030, compared with 2019 levels.

From 2019 to 2024 manufacturers must comply with average CO2 emission targets and from 2025 they shall comply with specific CO2 emission targets.

This Regulation establishes the way to calculate the limits.
